Happy New Year! I’m channeling my inner Sheldon Cooper and giddy because I have just discovered that CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, and home to the Large Hadron Collider, has an artist residency program. That means that artists, in a wide range of disciplines, can apply for a fully funded Collide@CERN residency and explore their artists practice through interaction with the great scientific minds of CERN. Aside from the fucking cool factor, I love that a mecca of science actually has a Cultural Policy for Engaging with the Arts. Sheldon would definitely scorn it as the end of science as we know it, but I’m excited to see the more and more programming that acknowledges the connections between science and the arts.
So while I know the Great Sheldon Cooper would look down on Arts@Cern programming, he did create and awesome slideshow of why he should accompany Leonard to see the CERN Super Collider.
